City Council

The City of Mukilteo incorporated in May 1947 and operates as a non-charter code city with a Mayor-Council form of government. The Mayor and seven City Councilmembers are part-time, non-partisan elected officials who serve four-year terms.  Municipal elections are held in November of odd-numbered years and terms are staggered so that no more than four positions are up for election every two years.

The Mayor is the Chief Executive Officer and the official and ceremonial head of the City.  The Mayor proposes an Annual Budget to the City Council and presides over all meetings of the City Council.  The Mayor cannot vote on ordinances, franchises or licenses, or for payment of any City monies.

The City Council is the legislative body of the City.  It enacts laws and regulations, establishes policy direction for the City, establishes tax and fee rates, adopts an Annual Budget, and approves payments of all City monies.

Council Extended Agenda
The Extended Agenda provides notice of upcoming City Council Meeting Agenda items.  These items may be moved to different dates depending upon timeliness of available information and balancing of workloads.

Council Meetings
Council meetings are held in the City Hall Council Chambers on the first and third Mondays of each month beginning at 7:00 PM unless posted otherwise.

Worksessions are held as needed in the Council Chambers and are generally scheduled for the 2nd Monday of each month beginning at 6:00 PM.

Informal Chime-In meetings are held on the 4th Monday of each month as the council meeting schedule allows. These informal meetings are for the purpose of communicating with your elected city officials and discussion is intended to be informal and free-flowing. There is no set agenda and no formal Council actions are taken.

The Mayor and Council Are Members of Other Boards and Commissions Outside the City including Snohomish County Boards and Committees to State and National Boards and Committees.  Click here for a complete List.
